A lot of the material in this dictionary was sourced from De Bhaldraithe with the kind permission of the publisher An Gúm. The definitive English-Irish Dictionary by Tomás De Bhaldraithe is currently the best source of correct English-Irish translations. I wish to thank Foras na Gaeilge for their help and advice and the Coiste Téarmaíochta who provided me with lists of modern terms.

I also wish to thank people who evaluated the dictionary at various stages and who provided some valuable feedback and supplementary words or alternative translations. Slovoed deserve special mention as they pointed very useful advice.

The list of Irish placenames was sourced from “Irish Place Names” by Laurence O’Flanagan by kind permission of the publishers Gill & MacMillan. The translations have been amended somewhat following an evaluation by a placenames expert.

The Irish surnames and first names were sourced from “An Sloinnteoir Gaeilge agus an tAinmeoir” by kind permission of the publisher Coiscéim.

Members of staff at the Faculties of Irish at TCD and UCC provided some useful feedback and advice with regard to the project.
